Active Living Maps – A Well London Project
Well London is a 3 year London-wide programme funded by the Big Lottery Fund. Seven London organisations have come together to form the Well London partnership. All of these have experience of working with local communities across the capital. They are:
- London Health Commission
- Central YMCA
- Groundwork London
- London Sustainability Exchange
- University of East London
- Arts Council England, London
- South London and Maudsley NHS Trust
We recognize that health and wellbeing is influenced by a number of different factors. This is reflected in our 5 themes:
- Healthy Eating
- Physical Activity
- Arts & Culture
- Open Spaces
- Mental Wellbeing
Groundwork London is leading on the Open Spaces theme. There are eight projects focused on the five themes and six ‘heart of the community’ projects, which are about general capacity building, accessibility work, consultation and evaluation. The projects adopt community development approaches; working to ensure the programme leaves a sustainable legacy. Well London aims to improve mental well-being, improve healthy eating choices, promote access to open spaces, increase levels of physical activity and introduce other opportunities such as training and volunteering in the 20 Well London neighbourhoods in London. Active Living Maps is one of the Well London ‘heart of the community’ projects. We use Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology to produce paper and web-based maps for each neighbourhood. They draw together in a single resource a broad range of well being opportunities and services within easy reach of each community. The maps are updated, printed and distributed on an annual basis.
